Assemblywoman Ginny Fields Reports to the People - May 2010
Dear Neighbor, As the New York State Legislature struggles to cut billions of dollars from the state budget, I continue to cast votes according to the wishes of my constituents. I made the difficult choice to join eight of my Majority colleagues and vote against the Assembly budget proposal in March that would including borrowing over $2 billion. My district has let me know that there are already too many taxes and fees—and I strongly agree. More...
Dear Mr. Iannuzzi: Today, a statewide survey has revealed that if the Governor's proposed $1.4 billion cuts to education are carried out in the 2010-11 budget it would result in nearly 15,000 teachers being laid off. Not only would these lay-offs impact classroom size, but they would also cut vital programs and cancel much needed enrichment programs that our children rely on. In light of the Senate's decision to pass a budget resolution that follows the Governor's lead and the Assembly's likely resolution that would reflect only a 50% restoration at most, we feel compelled to offer an additional course of action that would protect teachers and avoid these devastating cuts in services to children. Assemblywoman Ginny Fields Reports to the People - Winter 2009
Dear Neighbor, Due to the budget shortfall the Governor called the Legislature back to Albany to cut nearly $3 billion from the budget. As I wrote in my last newsletter, I did not vote for the budget in April of 2009 because it was fiscally irresponsible to do so. As I predicted, revenues were much lower than estimated. This is an extremely difficult period for New York State. The cuts proposed, while necessary, would have been painful to many. More...
Assemblywoman Ginny Fields Reports to the People - Summer 2009
Dear Neighbor, Over the past six months we have had to consider many controversial and critical issues in the New York State Assembly—one of the most important being the New York State budget. As most Americans know, we are experiencing a difficult economy. New York State has encountered low revenues due to the down-turn on Wall Street, the sub-prime mortgage crisis, bad banking practices, high unemployment, lack of consumer confidence, and over-spending. Our businesses are struggling to survive in this challenging economy. More...

Fields: Governor’s Sick Tax on Hospitals and Nursing Homes is the Wrong Choice
The governor’s proposed $429 million "sick tax" on hospitals, nursing homes and home health care agencies is simply the wrong choice. It’s the wrong choice for our already fragile health care system. It’s the wrong choice for health care workers, who are presently stretched too thin. It’s the wrong choice for hospitals and nursing homes struggling to keep their doors open. And it’s a disastrous choice for so many elderly and vulnerable New Yorkers who depend on quality health care.
The sick tax will cost nursing homes in the 5th Assembly District $195,000.
Today I began work in the Assembly to make sure hospitals, nursing homes and other health care providers are given the resources they desperately need to deliver the care our families deserve.
